The very first sport-utility helicopter...

Laflamme Helicopters wants to offer the first small tandem helicopter. This concept is revolutionary in itself because the tandem configuration simplifies and facilitates the piloting of small helicopters. A tandem type helicopter also has several advantages which outstand the conventionnal helicopters on the market today:

  • More stability

Tandem helicopters have always been more stable than tail-rotored helicopters. The reciprocal rotation of the rotors cancels all torque forces and gyroscopic precession. This explains the great stability of those aircrafts.

  • More payload

The payload that can be carried by the LAF-01 is estimated to be almost twice the payload weight capacity of a comparable conventionnal small helicopter.

  • More economic

The technology developed by Laflamme Helicopters allows them to manufacture all the composite material parts including the blades. The company can thus reduce its production costs and offer an aircraft with a heavy payload capacity at a much lower price compared to other helicopters with similar useful load capacity. Taking into account the characteristics of the LAF-01, it offers the best quality-price ratio on the market today.

  • More power available

Compared to conventionnal helicopters who use some of the engine power in the tail rotor to cancel the torque of the main rotor, all the engine power is used to lift the tandem aircraft. So the power-mass ratio is better on the tandem helicopters.

  • Tandem helicopters offer other advantages such as:

    • Easier to pilot than tail rotored helicopters.

    • Offers a better view of the surroundings because of the tandem disposition.

    • The cuising speed is greater by 50% because of the blades' geometry.

    • The operation cost is lower by 40% in fuel consumption for the kit version if compared to helicopters using certified aviation engines.

    • Advantageous purchase price if compared to kits available on the market and certified aircraft.

    • Absence of tail rotor permits landing in small bushes or tundra.
